Mt. Hood is an active volcano, one of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon, about an hour's drive from Portland. The mountain is over 11,000 feet high, the highest in Oregon. Although it hasn't errupted in modern times, its sister volcano, Mt. St. Helens to the north in Washington, has erupted numerous times in the last hundred years, most famously in 1980. But Mt. Hood could erupt too!
