Private, liberal Reed College in SE Portland is the anchor of the Woodstock area, even though it is technically in East Moreland just west of Woodstock; many of the residents of the area are current or former students. East Moreland itself is quite an exclusive area with big, beautiful, expensive homes, not in the budget of a typical liberal arts graduate.

In keeping with the liberal vibe in SE, many of the businesses in Woodstock are independent; there is no Starbucks or McDonalds immediately in the area (Even Hawthorne has a couple of Starbucks). Some of the homes in the area are nice but many are more modest.
